As the vocalist, guitarist and principal composer of Rockfeller's, Xavier Machiana became one of the defining figures of Mozambican rock music — at a time when the genre was still finding its voice in the country.
The band quickly grew from local stages to national prominence. Their energy was electric, their sound unmistakably African yet globally fluent. Xavier's songwriting drew from rock tradition while weaving in the rhythms and textures of Mozambican musical heritage. Rockfeller's is considered one of the most influential bands in Mozambican urban pop-culture, with more than 25 years of history.
The result: over 200 live performances across the country, with audiences routinely exceeding 10,000. The band earned numerous accolades and cemented Xavier's reputation as one of Mozambique's most compelling live performers.

As founder and lead vocalist of Indigo Blue, Xavier assembled a collective of six extraordinary musicians — each bringing unique cultural and musical influences from diverse backgrounds.
The band's sound is a mesmerizing fusion: Rock, Jazz, Gospel, Soul, African Tradition and infectious Funk woven together in a live experience unlike anything else in Mozambique. The name "Indigo Blue" symbolizes values of peace, humanity, integrity and love — the message the band conveys through every note.
Their debut single "GO" is now streaming on all major platforms — a powerful statement of artistic intent. More music is being developed at The Office studio in Maputo, with each song composed and written by Xavier Machiana.

Xavier Machiana's magnetic personality and deep cultural literacy made him the natural choice to host "No Sofa do Xavier" — a prime-time Saturday talk show on STV, Mozambique's largest private national channel.
Each episode brought together musicians, artists, activists, politicians and cultural icons in candid, warm conversation. His gift for making guests feel at ease while drawing out their most authentic perspectives drew millions of viewers every weekend, making it one of the country's most-watched programmes.
As an actor, Xavier appeared in "The Letter" (A Carta), produced by renowned director Pipas Forjaz, as well as numerous series and TV commercials across Mozambique, South Africa and Norway. He has also produced jingles for leading brands, combining musical expertise with commercial storytelling.

Xavier Machiana has never separated art from social responsibility. For over 25 years, alongside his artistic career, he has worked as a Project Manager and Specialist in Behaviour Change Communication — collaborating with national and international NGOs across Mozambique.
His programmes have addressed health, education, gender equality and youth empowerment — using music, theatre and storytelling as the primary vehicles of change. He actively participates in initiatives aimed at adolescents and young people in both urban and rural settings throughout Mozambique.
